Oh yeah... I'm John Arevalo

After millions of people (ok... 3 people) asked me why my website says very little about me, I've decided to acquiesce and post some stuff about...  me.  Where shall I begin?

Well, I was born in San Antonio, TX in 1952. At 16, I picked up a guitar for the first time and 6 months later I was gigging. I didn't do this to pick up girls although it did help. I truly love music... almost all music. Being from south TX, I did have some exposure to blues at a very early age. My dad loved it and would play old "78s" of blues pioneers. I didn't really fit in to the TX way of life. I had long hair, wore funny clothes and was generally a hippy type. I knew that someday I'd leave TX for the west coast and that's exactly what I did in 1975.

I had no idea what I'd find in Southern California, but I had to find out. What I found was good and bad. I found that hardly anyone was actually a CA native. EVERYONE comes to CA to seek their fortune. Because of that, it's extemely competitive in the entertainment industry. I struggled along until one day I got hired to join the Righteous Brothers Band. Technically, it was Bill Medley's band but I eventually worked with both Bill and Bobby Hatfield. That part of my career spanned from 1978 throught 1985. I loved it! We played all the cool stages including Madison Square Garden and even did some TV stuff. My guitar playing steadily improved and played with some of the worlds finest players. One man in particular helped me tremendously. His name is Johnny Lopez and is currently a Lutheran minister. I'll always cherish all that he taught me.

I'm currently living in Oregon near the coast, west of Portland. I'm playing regularly in Seaside with a small band. I use Sonar 6 to record. I play a Fender Strat with EMG pick ups and a Carvin CT-6 with EMGs also. What's left of my hair is still long and I still dress funny. I'll always be the hippy type. Peace!
